Why Cambridge is a Perfect Location for a Shepherd’s Hut
Cambridge is a stunning city full of rich English history. As one of England’s oldest locations, lovers of culture will never run out of things to do when visiting Cambridge, and for everyone else, the nature, cafes, pubs and shopping will delight. With a city so brilliant to spend time in, it’s no wonder that people flock to Cambridgeshire for their English city breaks.
Glamping in Cambridge
Cambridgeshire is a fairly rural county blessed with three bustling cities, making it perfect for glamping. Its many farms and rolling natural landscape offer fantastic glamping business potential, with multiple beautiful glamp and campsites already available to those ready to spend their holiday in this famous county.
If you’re interested in starting a glamping business and have some private land, we would highly recommend placing one or more luxury shepherd’s huts in Cambridge and the surrounding area.
What to see in Cambridge
Let’s talk about why Cambridge is a city that people across the UK and beyond love to visit.
King’s College Chapel and King’s College
The most iconic building of the city, King’s College Chapel, part of the incredible King’s College, is a truly beautiful building bursting with history. You can purchase tickets to tour the Chapel alone or with a guide, which is perfect for viewing and learning about the building’s many sights.
These include an exhibition on King’s College’s history, the world’s largest fan-vaulted ceiling, and the world-famous Adoration of the Magi, by artist Peter Paul Rubens. As a bonus, depending on the time of year, you’ll see the stunning wildflower meadow on the back lawns in full, multi-coloured bloom.
The college buildings cannot be toured as it is an active university and respect is owed to the students trying to learn, but you can view the buildings from Cambridge Centre’s many paths, bike trails, and the River Cam.
The Fitzwilliam Museum
An incredible museum for art lovers and history buffs, The Fitzwilliam is a must-visit during a Cambridge holiday. The building alone is a masterpiece of pillars and decorative carving, while the inside boasts beautiful Victorian interior design.
Tour through the Museum and view over half a million pieces of art, from paintings to manuscripts to sculptures. The Fitzwilliam is home to a Rembrandt and a Monet, along with Egyptian coffins, ancient artefacts, and one of the most impressive collections of modern art in Europe. You can spend hours getting lost amongst the fascinating art within the Fitzwilliam Museum, before heading back to your cosy shepherd’s hut to rest your feet.
Cambridge University Botanic Garden
One of the most stunning botanic gardens in the UK, the Cambridge University Botanic Garden is a marvel, regardless of your interest in nature. Perfect to visit no matter the season, the 40-acre park boasts plants from across the world alongside a stunning greenhouse and other beautiful buildings.
The botanic gardens always have events on, often free, from flower trails to exhibits to bird tours. A visit here makes a wonderful, peaceful break from the bustling streets of Cambridge, despite being nestled right in the city.
Mathematical Bridge
A rather unique tourist attraction, the Mathematical Bridge was a triumph of mid-18th century engineering. It’s said that its clever design means that if a timber in one of the side trusses needs replacing, none of its neighbouring timber would be disturbed, though this has never been tested. A quick pit-stop in a day packed with history and sights, this bridge is best enjoyed by floating beneath it on a guided punting tour.
Punting on the River Cam
A trip that you simply can’t miss, punting in Cambridge is a memorable experience that everyone will enjoy. Whether you choose an engaging and knowledgeable guided tour from your punter as they steer you down the river, or a fun private trip where you steer the punt yourself while enjoying the sites, a slow sail down this beautiful river is a must.
You’ll pass by The Backs, an area named for the many university buildings that back onto it with their impressive lawns, and the beautiful and awe-inspiring college buildings themselves. You’ll smoothly glide beneath many historic bridges while listening to the birdsong that accompanies the trees that line the water. We would highly recommend a guided punting tour to truly soak up the Cambridge experience.
Shepherd’s huts in Cambridge
If you own land in the Cambridge area and would like to start offering a glamping opportunity to the city’s many visitors, then consider placing beautiful, rustic shepherd’s huts. Our incredible wooden huts are built to templates, enabling us to produce stunning huts for a fraction of the competitors’ costs.
Each hut comes with a fully fitted shower room with top-quality ceramic facilities, while the full kitchen boasts storage, a fridge, a double-ring hob, and plenty of space to move around. Depending on the hut design you choose, you’ll be able to enjoy either a cosy open bedroom and living room area, or a bedroom tucked behind a half wall or complete wall, with the living area shared by the kitchen.
Each one of our huts is built by hand in our workshop in Norfolk by skilled craftsmen, using a perfectly designed blend of modern technology and traditional techniques. The huts feature electrics, a hot water heater, and the capability to connect them to mains water and sewage. All glass is double-glazed for warmth and comfort, and the inner walls are lined with T&G panelling. These huts could not be more luxurious, just waiting for you to add the right finishing touches to make them your own.
